Continued very warm and dry through Saturday***
The area of high pressure that was over California has weakened and is now allowing the region to cool down after several days of record heat. However, daytime highs will still be above normal with 70s in the mountains and 80s to low 90s in the valleys. With a return of onshore flow, there will be some modest humidity recovery along the coast and to a lesser degree over the inland areas. Winds will generally be variable 5 to 15 mph. High pressure will remain over California Friday and Saturday with weak surface offshore flow developing. Temperatures will change little throughout the district and there will be some local northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph below the canyons and passes of Southern California during the morning hours both days. A weak area of low pressure will quickly move through the region Sunday and Monday which will help bring more seasonable weather to the district. Onshore flow will increase and the marine layer will become more influential across the coastal areas during this time. More substantial cooling may be in the offering by the middle to end of next week.
