  • Charlie what to you is not normal that is an all to familiar pattern here in the North. You just need to come up for an few years and you will see what I mean. Every time during the deep cold I drive thru the inversion layer that fills the bowl in the Tanana valley in which Fairbanks is in.

  • My featured picture  was last year at this time and into January. Glad had the old analog thermometer as the new stuff on market  shuts down at that temp. Davis  and all the new digital PWS are completely us […]

    • Thanks for the great report John! Great analysis of what is going on in the 49th state this week. Guess Thompson Pass snow has dropped off now. Will be checking it. Found the data for the Nicks Valley SNOTel site at 4200 feet above the pass. They have about 9 feet of snow there on the ground. Love that picture. My friend Ray loved that picture! Classic and impressive temperature value we never see down here in Maryland. Thanks again John and have a great day! Kevin

  • Another  24 inches  forecast for  that area  in next 24 hours as the atmospheric river  continues to  pump moisture into the area.  For those  would  don’t live along the coast   it is some thing to experience […]

Yes they can get nasty out there espically in the shallow waters of the Bering. I have seen waves on weather patrol back in the 60’s off of greeenland that were in the 60 to 80 foot ranges. Also in the lower lats roaring 40’s, blowing 50’s, and screaming 60’s. USCGC Eastwind lost it forward gun mount (5 in 38) when it buried it nose into one…[Read more]

  • Well  November history here and  we stayed at the  8th snowy month . Two big storms in the Bering as they swept along the chain.  The first really bombed out with an drop of 55 mb in 24 hours with  winds gust […]

    Hi Nathan.
Not sure if I answered you or not but as far as to the lighting detection here unless one has personal detection there is none. That was why I asked about weather Bug as for the app. At that time is was an wait and maybe see with your leadership. Not sure how exactly an company can provide services like that when your are suppose…[Read more]

Big bomb in the Bering and another coming being it. Sunday weather in the chain found an bomb with pressure down to 944 Mb with wind hitting 92 and 91 knots at Adak and Attu. On it heels coming out off Russia far east is another potential bomb. That time of year for those big storms like that.

  • Well here we are  almost to the end of the month. November started out here with  bare earth and  we are ending up with 15 inches on the ground. According to the NWS FAI we are in the top 10 for snowy No […]

    • 50-foot seas… yikes. The biggest I can remember here in the Pacific Northwest were some 40-foot seas during the “Great Coastal Gale” of 2007, but we simply don’t get storms large and deep enough to generate waves above 50 feet.

USCGC Eastwind lost it forward gun mount (5 in 38) when it buried it nose into one of those monsters as it was going south into the Anartic. I am sure we seen some other in northern lats in the typhoons and hurricans that I have had the pleasure to ride out at sea

    • Thanks for your November report John. Interesting pattern changes to the storms in the Bering Sea vs. Gulf of Alaska so far this fall/winter season. Will be watching for that pattern to either remain or change in the next few months. Keep up your great blog reports. Great information!!

After 3 days of snow another big storm coming out of Siberia has us in the crosshairs for another 3 days for the sky is falling, ETYA is Wednesday nite. Last storm deposited 8.5 inches of snow with monthly total of 17 inches so far for November. Hope this snow is going to be dry then the last so the weigh factor don’t add up too quick.

    This is leading up to

    Aloft…At 500 hpa…A 494 dam low 200 nm northwest of Wrangel
Island remains quasi stationary through Thursday morning, then
moves east across the Arctic over 75N through Saturday afternoon,

Still waiting for the snow and some colder temps. Man can freeze working outside and start sweating while moving cut brush, and what they call trees here in the boreal forest.

    • Thanks for your first posts John. It can really be quite easy, easier than the previous systems, and we have more people working on the system here that can really help and make things easier and run smoother. Hope you can see my posts on here. Have a great day! Kevin

Not sure how exactly an company can provide services like that when your are suppose to be supplying weather data services. Any way if you can plant some ideas in some one head there and get it startedit might be an profitable kick start.
