I hope your 2021 has been happy, safe and fun so far! It’s been a very tough year for all of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed too many lives; and caused too much despair and loneliness to bear. But wi […]

Light rain showers fell on parts of the Columbia Basin Monday evening. These brought an insignificant amount of rain, with the Tri-Cities Airport only recording a trace (meaning it wasn’t enough to measure). What […]

    • Awesome post Mark! I remember the “milky rain” back in 2015 – very cool that you could trace the origins of the dust in this rain.

    • Hello Harrison, and sorry for the late reply. I would not expect there to be anything so harmful in your dust that you would not be able to use the things it got into. We have similar cases here in Eastern Washington but I have never heard of anyone having a medical issue from chemicals in dust blowing from agricultural fields. You should probably wash it before use if the dust was blown in within a day of herbicide or pesticide being used, but I suspect you probably would have washed it anyway. Thank you for reading!

  • While the Northeast is experiencing blizzard conditions, we have a very bright but cold Tuesday here in Michigan.  It’s never a bad thing to see the sun, even when temps are much too cold to go out and enjoy […]

  • I’m not a big beer drinker. However, I always have a few cans of Coors in my fridge in case some friends come over and want to crack a cold one. Why Coors? Because the mountains turn blue when it’s “as cold as the […]

  • Today is the first in a week that we haven’t had any snow.  Everyday has brought flurries.  The past two days had less than an inch and we have only about three inches of snow cover at this time.  There is an […]

  • The weather forecast called for about an inch of snow and I think we already have that.  This morning we only had about quarter of an inch and it’s been steadily snowing since then.  We are expecting another r […]

  • Although we are not under any watches or advisories yet, I’m expecting it to happen later on today.  This seems to be a repeat of last weekend.  We were only supposed to get 1-2 inches then, and that’s what t […]

  • This morning was very cold with our wake up temp at only 10F.  Since then, the temperature has recovered into the low 20s and we aren’t expecting it to get much warmer.  At least we can sort of see the sun b […]

  • There are many well-known portmanteaus of snow and catastrophic descriptors, with Snowzilla, Snowmageddon, and Snowpocalypse being some of the primary offenders. But what about a more pedestrian snowfall that […]

  • Snow began before I got up this morning and everything was white.  We are under a snow advisory until 6 PM which has been extended from 4 PM.  We shoveled about three inches so far and it is still coming down.  Th […]

  • A local meteorologist just said that we will be getting more snow tonight and could possible have some moderate accumulation by late tomorrow.  This seems be be happening almost every day.   The snow should be […]

  • We have light snow falling at this time and now the forecast is calling for up to 2 inches of snow for us.  Yesterday was bright and sunny and I think that will have to do us for awhile.  The sun is rather s […]

  • Although temperatures are very cold, the sun is bright and it raises one’s spirits just to look outdoors.  It was only 10F when I got up this morning and it has since warmed into the upper 20s.  Unfortunately it w […]

  • We had sun almost all day on Thursday which was a welcome sight.  Today, we are back with clouds and light snow once again.  We are still not hearing much about this impending winter storms.  Right now, it lo […]

  • It’s been said that “snow is the most difficult thing to forecast in the Pacific Northwest.” And while I believe this is often true – our terrain, microclimates, and often marginal temperatures can make snow […]

  • Yesterday was cloudy, but we had some clearing late giving us this beautiful sunset.  Today has been sunny with a few clouds, and temps are quite mild.  Unfortunately, winds are very strong making it very cold i […]

  • December 2020 was warmer and wetter than normal. My maximum temperature average (45.7°) was 0.5° above normal but my minimum temperature average (32.7°) was much more significantly above normal (+ 4.5°), res […]

  • This is about the 4th day that we’ve had these exact weather conditions.  Occasional snow squalls from lake effect keep dropping about an inch to two everyday.  It isn’t much but just enough that we have to keep c […]

  • It’s been a while since we had a significant, regionwide, winter windstorm hit the Pacific NW. The last major windstorm to hit the Inland Northwest was the 11/17/2015 windstorm, which brought an extended period of […]
