  • Another day, another poorly-forecast lowland snow event.

Our low-pressure system was stronger and faster than modeled, and as a result, it generated more and heavier precipitation than expected. Yesterday’s […]

  • This is going to be super short, because I’m still sick.

I hope you enjoyed “Round 1” of our late February cold-weather bonanza, because Round 2 is beginning even as I write this.

Over the last 24 to 48 hours, […]

  • Once again, we received much more precip than what was predicted.  There was 1.20 inches in my gauge as of 8 AM this morning and moderate rain continues at this time.  The rain began around 1:30 PM yesterday a […]

  • This will just be a quickie, as I’m getting up early tomorrow to go skiing at Mt. Hood Meadows. But after getting scattered, non-sticking snow showers for much of the day, the Portland metro area is finally seeing […]

    • Charlie, have a blast skiing today!
I received 3.3” total snowfall as of this morning’s measurement at a 600’ elevation (0.3” from the afternoon total, which melted, then another 3.0” from the evening, steadier snowfall as temperatures dropped). Kudos to our pet care person who pulled double-duty and measured it for me!

      • Fairly rare for both Portland and central Maryland to have a similar snow event at just about the same time! Warm mid-40s on Sunday wiped out the snowpack, esp with the stronger sun and increased sun angle. Thanks for posting such a detailed analysis for your snow there in Portland. Have a blast skiing up there on Mt Hood Meadows! Enjoy! Kevin

  • We rose this morning to a world of white but it didn’t last long.  There was half an inch of new snow on the deck, but by the time we returned home from church, it was gone.  Can’t say that I’m d […]

  • We have about 4.5 inches of snow cover as of this morning.  Where we cleared the snow, it is down to bare ground.  We have very warm temperatures in the forecast for mid week and that should rid us of the r […]
