Charlie, I’ve been reading about an increase in volcanic activity in Yellowstone that has closed the park. Do you know if this is true or just hype?

Hi Cathie, there was an increase recently – a fissure was noticed in Grand Teton National Park, which is slightly south of Yellowstone. This type of stuff happens all the time though, Yellowstone is a very geologically active region. Unfortunately, whenever there’s a little bit of activity, some rather unscrupulous news organizations try to imply that the recent activity means Yellowstone, a supervolcano, is more likely to blow, but this is not the case.

We had quite a variety of weather yesterday here in the Portland/Vancouver area. More rain than in the last 2 months and hail. I had hail up to 1/4â in the late morning, then possibly another round at noontime but I wasnât home to observe it.
Snowing at Timberline this morning (4â as if 5 A.M.!).

Hi Nathan! You can download it here. There are many “THREDDS” servers that you can enter and retrieve data from, and the newest versions have added the “NOAA Big Data” project which has GOES-16 and NEXRAD-2 data.

Yeah we’ve had some amazing experiences thus far… our second day (I got the blog up last night) was out best with multiple giant mesocyclones, and our third day had plenty of gust fronts and was also pretty spectacular.
