  • Hi again Cathie. I double checked the location of Lapeer and found it considerably south of the Gaylord MI forecast office area of responsibility (AOR). It showed up in Google Maps east of Flint and within the Detroit/Pontiac NWS forecast office AOR. So I went to their page and unfortunately they apparently did not go out to Lapeer that I could…[Read more]

  • Thanks for the great report Cathie. I dug up some more information on the 4 confirmed tornadoes from the Gaylord MI NWS website. I didn’t see an F2 tornado in this report – 2 F0 and 2 F1 tornadoes and they didn’t use Lapeer that I could see. But they mentioned the same counties you did. Perhaps the F2 tornado you reported from Lapeer was evaluated…[Read more]

  • Thanks Cathie about the update on the Durand Train Station. I have weather friends who are also train enthusiasts and they would find this of interest also. I am already a member of the “We love weather” group on the Weather Channel. I just sent them the following URL, but don’t see anything posted on it yet. Very interesting site from the top of…[Read more]

  • JULY 2018 MONTHLY SUMMARY ROCKVILLE 2.8 WNW MARYLAND
By Kevin Shaw, Observer in Charge

July 2018 was a tale of two distinct, different patterns. The first 16 days of the

month was hot and dry (all 8 days […]

  • The cooler, drier air finally moved in totally on Thursday, with clear, blue skies and dew points mostly in the 50s all day giving our region a chance to continue the drying out process and a chance to cool off. […]

  • After Tuesday’s day of heavy rains that dragged into the first few minutes of very early Wednesday (0.14″) , we started to dry out though clouds hung around for a good part of the day at times with even some […]

  • Hi Cathie! Where is this house in your featured image? It almost looks like big lighthouse home. Really nice! I usually assume that the image posted is from the observer’s home or immediate surroundings and when it is not, I like to explain where the image is from. I have asked others on the blog this question and they usually respond with…[Read more]

  • Notice on the VP2 display featured image that at 11:24 PM I had 2.24″ of rain so far – with only 36 minutes left in the day – and I wound up with 4.34″ in my VP2 tipping bucket. It was really coming down the hardest of the day right at the end of the day! I have a slight data problem as I could not go out right at midnight due to the thunderstorm…[Read more]

It was really coming down the hardest of the day right at the end of the day! I have a slight data problem as I could not go out right at midnight due to the thunderstorm still in the area, so I went after the all clear (which fortunately was only 15 or so minutes after midnight) and measured, and used my tipping bucket as a partial guide as to my “precipitation split” for the 2 days. • Neat to see your weather station display! I’ve been missing my weather station with it being offline. Hoping my replacement is installed soon!

  • Once again on Monday we were cool and cloudy, a dense overcast most of the day brought on by a continued moist NE flow off coming down from New England and maritime Canada. Temps held in the 70s all day once again […]
