  • April 2018 featured a bit above normal rainfall and below normal temperatures at the three major airports in the DC area. There were generally cool temperatures all month except for a brief 2 day mini-heat wave on […]

  • Thanks Cathie. Though my area may be getting rocked often this year, my station has not. I almost totally missed the rains that dumped on Ellicott City on Sunday (I got 0.02″) and storms locally around my station seem to go elsewhere quite often, as I watch the local radar in amazement. Sure direct hits just seem to vanish into just a bit of light…[Read more]

  • Memorial Day Monday started out cloudy with a little light rain around 0700 (0.01″) then just cloudy and dry the rest of the day. No storms today, pretty calm day. Temperatures only warmed up into the low 70s with […]

  • Sunday started out partly cloudy, muggy and very warm through the mid-afternoon, then clouds took over as storms entered the area. The devastating flooding rains that hit Ellicott City were so bad because of […]

    • The rains this year have been ridiculous. The southern areas of Michigan were flooded a few weeks ago also. It seems that it never rains but it pours. We had some severe pop up storms again yesterday around Midland and Saginaw, just like the day before. They were very small cells but really packed a punch, but your area seems to have never ending storms this year. Prayers for all those affected.

Sure direct hits just seem to vanish into just a bit of light rain. I have had a lot of measurable rain days, particularly this month, but very few greater than 1 inch amounts all year (actually I have had a total of 5, 3 in May, 1 in both Feb and April). Greatest amount was 2.22″ in April. It almost always seems to be raining more elsewhere than my location. My annual total rainfall so far of 17.78″ is really just about normal for up to this point in the year. We tend to remember the most recent weather and forget about what happened in the early part of the year, like that really cold and dry weather of early January. Of course, the key thing to remember this week is our veterans, though I was not one. My Dad fought in WW2 over in England and have pictures of him in uniform during his active duty. Have a great day, and stay dry. I am sure we will have dry and hot days ahead, and we need to save any rain we get now and have gotten earlier this year for these dry, hot days ahead. Kevin

  • Saturday started out partly cloudy, muggy and very warm through the mid-afternoon. Cumulus clouds were building fast and by mid-afternoon we had mostly cloudy conditions with storms/showers moving in. Thunder and […]

  • Awesome Charlie! I can’t get enough pictures of all the volcanic activity these days. I just learned 2 new terms the past week – Laze and Vog. Fascinating to think about what the final result of all this activity will be. Thanks for posting!

  • Sunday finally broke our week-long rainy streak with partly cloudy, warmer, dry weather all day. Morning mugginess continued, but started to dry out a bit in the afternoon and evening PM hours. Temperatures rose […]

  • Friday was another sunny, warm, dry day. There were some clouds at times, breezes on occasion, and definitely rising dew points in the afternoon. Temperatures warmed up higher into the mid 80s and with rising dew […]

  • Thursday was a really sunny, warm, dry day. Everytime I looked out a window to the sky, there was not a cloud to be seen! Dew points low, temperatures warm up into the mid 80s but with the dry air a pretty […]

  • Wednesday was a calmer day, partly cloudy with scattered cumulus dancing about the sky, and a bit warmer than Tuesday due to more sun. It dried out from a humid beginning to a comfortable evening. The Wednesday […]

  • Tuesday put a sudden halt to our short dry spell, through a heavy mid-afternoon thunderstorm (1.01″ total for the day, about 80% of that from the thunderstorm, the other was from a light shower in the late […]

  • Since I was not able to post this Monday report till late this Wednesday morning, I have edited it down from its original form to make it relevant from this point on.

Monday continued our short dry spell, […]

  • What body of water was this picture taken from? Your place up in northern Michigan? One of the great lakes or another lake perhaps? Love the thunderstorm cloud in the distance. Did you get any rain out of it, or was it moving away from you at the time? Thanks for posting – we are very green and lush here, with 4.77″ of rain here this week. And the…[Read more]

  • Saturday continued our cloudy, wet (1.02″) pattern that featured the return of the milder, muggier air with frequent fog spells and rising temps and dew pts though the 60s. The system is winding down as most of […]

  • Friday continued our cloudy, showery (0.53″) pattern that had an added twist – the “back-door” cold front slid south today and we got some cool NE breezes that sent temps down into the 50s. The system is winding […]

  • Sorry my featured images this week are so drab – that is the way it has been! Pat and Cathie have such vibrantly colorful photos, aided at least in part with some sun, which I have not seen since last Sunday. It might not be till this coming Sunday before I see the sun once again, though it won’t be totally sunny all day!! Would like to be able to…[Read more]

  • Thursday continued our cloudy, muggy, showery (1.01″ – but no thunder heard once again) pattern that looks to finish out the week and finally end by Sunday. Temperatures held in the mid 60s all day for a very […]

  • Wednesday continued our cloudy (see today’s featured image), muggy, occasionally showery (0.11″ – but no thunder) pattern that looks to hold into the weekend. Temperatures held in the mid 60s for a late PM minimum […]

  • Tuesday started out in the very first hours of the day with numerous rumbles of thunder and occasional light rain till about 0400. Partly cloudy by sunrise, calm and quite warm and humid most of the day, with high […]

  • Monday was quite a day. Starting out calm and peaceful with clouds and fog, and very stable temperatures in the upper 50s to around 60°, the afternoon really got going as temps finally started to warm up to […]
