Tried to post this update for Tuesday and Wednesday but I could not load a featured image so it wouldn’t publish. I get an HTTP error on my images that I select, even old ones that have worked previously.
Hotter and more humid, with thunderstorms Tuesday and dry on Wednesday update for West Rockville Maryland for Tuesday, July 2 and Wednesday July 3 2019
Once again I go to a 2 day format as I got busy with pre-holiday preparations this week. Tuesday and Wednesday were partly cloudy as temps heated up after the temporary relief on Monday that started off the month of July well. With highs above 90 on Tuesday and Wednesday I am off to another 90+ streak of high temperatures.
Tuesday was the hotter day, but also featured some thunderstorm activity in the late afternoon and early evening (0.73 inches). Heaviest rates were recorded around 1700 in the storm that lasted about a half an hour between 1650 and 1720. Temperatures rose from a relatively comfortable lower-mid 60s in the early AM to the lower mid 90s by mid-afternoon before the storms dropped the temps from 90 to 74 during the heavy thunderstorm in the late afternoon. Temperatures held in the low-mid 70s the rest of the day. The dew point temperature started out in the low 60s in the early AM but rose uncomfortably to the lower mid 70s by early evening, just after the heavy thunderstorms.
Tuesday:
The maximum temperature was 93.5 degrees at 1611.
The minimum temperature was 63.9 degrees at 0603.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 61 degrees @ 0120 up to a high of 74 degrees @ 1820.
The relative humidity values ranged from a low of 50% @ 1615 up to a high of 95% @ 2240.
The barometric pressure ranged from a high of 29.96 inches @ 0000 down to a low of 29.81 inches @ 1625.
There was 0.73 inches of precipitation on Tuesday. A total of 0.73 inches of rain has been recorded in July. The year-to-date total is now 23.39 inches.
Wednesday was not quite as hot, but still managed to top the 90 mark. No rain fell, though clouds did increase in the late afternoon and early evening, but storms/rain fell elsewhere in the region, and was more scattered than on Tuesday. Temperatures rose from the lower 70s in the early AM to the low 90s by mid-late afternoon. Temperatures only slowly dropped through the 80s to just under the 80 mark at midnight observation. The dew point temperature started out in the upper 60s in the early AM but once again rose uncomfortably to the mid 70s by early afternoon, and stayed above 70 the rest of the day.
Wednesday:
The maximum temperature was 90.8 degrees at 1728.
The minimum temperature was 71.3 degrees at 0608.
The dew point temperatures ranged from a low of 69 degrees @ 0531 up to a high of 74 degrees @ 1332.
The relative humidity values ranged from a high of 95% @ 0113 down to a low of 52% @ 1723.
The barometric pressure ranged from a low of 29.85 inches @ 0306 up to a high of 29.96 inches @ 2356.
There was no precipitation on Wednesday. A total of 0.73 inches of rain has been recorded in July. The year-to-date total is 23.39 inches.
My current online data (except for rainfall/snowfall – use the cocorahs link shown below for that dataset) is showing regularly on Weather Underground. My data is posted there every 5 minutes. My ID is KMDROCKV200 and my station is called “Gardens of Traville.” Data is online, available in real-time as it is being updated on a 5 minute interval.
I contribute my precipitation data daily to CoCoRaHS as Rockville 2.8 WNW, Station ID MD-MG-115.
Please remember that my Weather Underground precipitation data reflects what is recorded automatically through the tipping bucket VP2 gauge, just as it does on WxLink 2.0. The tipping bucket has been producing erratic values every day of late so should not be used except for general precipitation timing.
I actually use the data I post to CoCoRaHS from my 4 inch CoCoRaHS gauge I read manually as my “official” precipitation total each day.
On Tuesday I had my other normal breakfast of cereal, banana and milk. For dinner I had this lovely pesto ravioli with spicy sausage in a light cream sauce that was quite tasty. On Wednesday I got another grocery delivery from Safeway in the early evening. I had some of the leftover chicken and rice a roni with green beans for brunch, then I doctored it up for dinner with just purchased fresh mushrooms, mushroom soup, and Italian meat balls. Those additions really morphed the remaining leftover rice a roni/green beans (chicken was all gone which was why I added the meatballs). I thoroughly enjoyed it, along with the Yankees 5-1 win over their cross-town rivals the Mets at the Mets home at Citipark in Queens.
This hot, humid partly cloudy pattern should continue through the 4th of July week through Saturday, with possible afternoon/evening storms that may be quite heavy on Thursday. Temps should peak out in the upper 80s to around 90, with lows in the upper 60s – low 70s.
A slightly cooler trend should start on Sunday but still with storms possible that day, highs in the mid 80s and lows in the mid-upper 60s.
Continuing on Monday and Tuesday but dry with no storms or rain expected, partly to mostly sunny skies, highs once again in the mid 80s and lows in the mid 60s.
Midnight Wednesday recorded a temperature of a muggy, uncomfortable 79.4°, relative humidity 76%, pressure rising at 29.96 inches and a dew point temperature of 71.2° under partly cloudy skies.
Currently at 1142 the temperature is 87.7° under mostly sunny skies, relative humidity at 69%, barometric pressure steady at 30.05 inches, and the dew point temperature a most uncomfortable 76°.
Good morning from the walrus on this sunny, muggy 4th of July Thursday.
