Even though they are still releasing a ton of water down the eroded spillway, Lake Oroville is now at 80% capacity (up from 79% yesterday) due to heavy rains throughout Northern California. Upstream reservoirs are also continuing to rise as water is withheld behind the dams… Antelope Lake is now at 110% capacity!

This has been such a huge weather-related event, I don’t know why I’m just mentioning it now! I have a feeling that Oroville Dam will be in the news for much of this spring as runoff from the snowpack in the Sierras flows into Lake Oroville.

It’s because this is an emergency and they need funds immediately to prevent further damage. But I agree… infrastructure should be a priority. Hydroelectricity/dams have a surprisingly destructive and deadly history.

I had the privilege of travelling to Pacific City on the Oregon Coast this weekend with my brother. Pacific City is right next to Cape Kiwanda, which along with Cape Meares and Cape Lookout, is part of the Three Capes Scenic Route along the Oregon Coast. I was on the Oregon Coast (Pacific City, to be exact) this weekend with my brother and we experienced some extremely intense showers with hail and gusty winds. Yeah, at least not for now. It’s amazing how much more rain Northern California gets compared to Southern California. The National Drought Monitor still has some of SoCal under an “extreme drought” though.

Wow… that almost reminds me of the big storm they had in February 1998… looks a little similar. I heard there were 75+ mph winds with that squall BTW, lots of trees down throughout the area. Santa Barbara Airport picked up over 4″ of rain today and had to close due to flooding.

Here’s the radar from the Santa Ana Mountains (KSOX) about an hour ago. Look at that squall line ripping through SoCal!

Well, Southern California has its hands full tonight. The only thing they are missing is a tornado warning! Chris Scragg of Phoenix Weather Blog wrote a blog on this incoming storm. Looks like it is living up to the hype!
