Wow, that’s a ton. I have a feeling there’s probably some by my parents’ place in Seattle, we get a lot of landslides there. The Department of Natural Resources had the Seattle metro area under an “extreme” risk for landslides yesterday – looks like it verified!

There have been an amazing amount of landslides and washouts. With all the moisture funneling into the Pacific Northwest, the ground is becoming more unstable and several areas are at risk to have more landslides.
Here is where we can compile a list of all the ones that have happened. Here are the ones I know of:
*Landslide: I-90,…[Read more]

Urban and small stream flood advisory just posted for NW Oregon and SW Washington, and is in effect until 3:45 this afternoon. Still raining like crazy here!

We were drier than average for much of this winter, but February has proved to be a notable exception.
Here are a few interesting statistics from around the region:
Seattle has had multiple February days with over 1.50″ of rain, the first time this has happened on record. Total rainfall for this month is around 7.84″, the record rainfall for…[Read more]

Nice! I’ll definitely look at it and share it with others, thanks Brie.
It’s crucial to have an emergency plan for when severe weather strikes. You might never need to use it, but it makes a huge difference when you are in a high-impact event. I remember losing power for many days during the Hannukkah Eve Storm – I wish I had an emergency kit then!

I recently added an Emergency and Severe Weather preparedness section on my blog. It’s still a work in progress to some extent but is also still up and ready to be used. If you haven’t considered an emergency plan and prepared and emergency kit, I highly recommend that you do so. You just never know what might happen and it’s better to be prepared…[Read more]

Paine Field hit 48 so that verifies the advisory there. Seatac and Boeing came close, looks like.

Surprisingly, I haven’t heard of any outages near us, regardless of the soil situation. It’s been ripping pretty decently here, but nothing too bad. Probably not advisory criteria, but some areas have definitely gotten close. West winds beginning to ramp up in the strait now.

Here are the winds so far today. 80s in the mountains. Winds barely reached advisory criteria over most of Western WA, but the San Juans were firmly wind-advisory material. I believe wind advisory is defined as 30-39 mph sustained for an hour or more or wind gusts of 46-57 mph, but I think the offices also issue them based on impact, which is a…[Read more]

Still reasonably calm here in N. Woodinville, but picking up. Gusts maybe in the 10-20 range for now. Not hearing my wind chimes yet, it takes a decent gust for those to go, they’re pretty big. Camano clocked a 50mph gust earlier this hour.

Seattle NWS just posted some gusts around the area. These should increase and peak around midday. Newest SEW AFD should be up shortly, PQR already posted theirs.

We had a quick burst of really heavy hail here around 1pm I believe, or so. The hail quickly changed back to heavy rain, and then it was over as quick as it began.
