Wow, Eugene has picked up 1.69 inches and PDX 1.54 inches through 4 pm… meaning PDX now has 8.04 inches of rain for February alone. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some incoming reports of landslides and sinkholes in NW Oregon soon.

Looks like we are getting some in SW Washington too:
Landslide: Northbound I-5, milepost 22, Woodland. According to WSDOT, it occurred around 3:50 pm today.

I just found it on the Seattle National Weather Service’s Twitter page… they post great stuff all the time. Same with Portland. Those are the two main ones I look at but pretty much all the offices post great stuff regularly on their Twitter accounts.

Wow, that’s a ton. I have a feeling there’s probably some by my parents’ place in Seattle, we get a lot of landslides there. The Department of Natural Resources had the Seattle metro area under an “extreme” risk for landslides yesterday – looks like it verified!

There have been an amazing amount of landslides and washouts. With all the moisture funneling into the Pacific Northwest, the ground is becoming more unstable and several areas are at risk to have more landslides.

Nice! I’ll definitely look at it and share it with others, thanks Brie.
It’s crucial to have an emergency plan for when severe weather strikes. You might never need to use it, but it makes a huge difference when you are in a high-impact event. I remember losing power for many days during the Hannukkah Eve Storm – I wish I had an emergency kit then!

I recently added an Emergency and Severe Weather preparedness section on my blog. It’s still a work in progress to some extent but is also still up and ready to be used. Surprisingly, I haven’t heard of any outages near us, regardless of the soil situation. It’s been ripping pretty decently here, but nothing too bad. Probably not advisory criteria, but some areas have definitely gotten close. West winds beginning to ramp up in the strait now.
