Here are the winds so far today. 80s in the mountains. Winds barely reached advisory criteria over most of Western WA, but the San Juans were firmly wind-advisory material. I believe wind advisory is defined as 30-39 mph sustained for an hour or more or wind gusts of 46-57 mph, but I think the offices also issue them based on impact, which is a…[Read more]

Still reasonably calm here in N. Woodinville, but picking up. Gusts maybe in the 10-20 range for now. Not hearing my wind chimes yet, it takes a decent gust for those to go, they’re pretty big. Camano clocked a 50mph gust earlier this hour.

Seattle NWS just posted some gusts around the area. These should increase and peak around midday. Newest SEW AFD should be up shortly, PQR already posted theirs.

We had a quick burst of really heavy hail here around 1pm I believe, or so. The hail quickly changed back to heavy rain, and then it was over as quick as it began.

Here’s one over Seattle… not quite as dramatic but still very impressive. I think my house got hit by one of the areas of red… we had a torrential downpour. Heard reports of lightning with this band as well.

Some really heavy stuff around! Seattle’s seen plenty, and take a look at this incredible radar image of one passing through Portland. Must be a lot of instability in the wake of the cold front that brought such heavy rain this morning.

Just had a pretty vicious squall line come through Central Seattle! A look at the radar shows four squall lines oriented SSW to NNE from Seattle to Portland. We’ll still have heavy showers at times throughout the day, but they will be decreasing as the day goes on and the steady rain we had this morning is over.

Hi Brie and Mark! I was already completely obsessed with weather before the HES storm but that was one heck of a storm – definitely the most memorable weather event of my life aside from the big thunderstorm I saw when I was 5 that got me interested in weather for the first place.

Looks to me like the Willamette will rise another two feet in the coming days.

Yay, I’m Mark.
I have been interested in weather forever. I am going to BYU-Idaho and am excited for Spring to start so I can adventure around this area. When I’m not doing weather, I’m hiking around trying to find new things and new places.
Have questions about weather? There’s like a 50/50 chance I’ll know the answer, so feel free to ask. If I…[Read more]

Take a look at the Weather Service’s website this morning and south Idaho is a sea of green with Flood Advisories and Warnings. The snow is melting and rain is falling and those two together are causing record […]

Crazy amount of flooding going on here in Idaho already. The Raft River is 4.3 feet above its record level. Here’s the flood gauge:

25,000 raw files? Holy crap. I have some spare external hard drives you could use if you want BTW, a 1 tb and a 1.5 tb. Both are pretty old and need to be plugged into an outlet, but perhaps you could find them useful.

Rain let up for a bit but now it looks like its starting to come back. Thankfully, it looks like the heaviest rain is on its way out. http://www.atmos.washington.edu/weather/radar.shtml
